This makes me so sad, my dad died when I was 8. When my youngest daughter was in grade school every year that had a father/daughter banquet. Since I was divorced and her dad lived a few states away he didn’t come up very often and wouldn’t have come up for that anyway. Every year we dreaded that time of year, the tears and sadness because she had no dad to take with her. Well one year her friend told her she would share her dad with her so she wouldn’t have to be the only girl with no dad there. You see, I had always went went her. So that was a great year. The next year her brother, from her dad’s first marriage, came and took her and she was so proud to show her college age brother off, it was a good year. Sometimes I think the schools and organizations are unthinking about whether one parent or the other can show up. I think they should just have a parent/daughter or son dinner.
I agree 100%. It is very sad. I am glad there are others that step up and take the place though…
